What I've Been Up To...

Hi! My life has been a lot of just... cruising lately. In other words, trying to figure things out while just getting "through it".  It is very difficult to find a job, especially on top of classes-- but I'm trying my darnedest. My roommate and I have been watching a lot of movies, which has been so, so fun. I reached ninety-one movies for the year on my Letterboxd. I finally watched Obsession (2026) and loved it! Such a sad story. My roommate and I went to this art show that was in someone's house; it was my first time going to something like that. We felt a bit out of place, but I think I'd go again...I mean, hey, they had free cake! Sometimes art is a bunch of bull, and that's ok. We also went to a hockey game. I love watching hockey games so much, and I'm not much of a sporty person. That's really all I have to say right now. Please check out my YouTube video and leave a little comment; I love talking to people and hearing their thoughts!

Bye Bye!

Film students aren't watching films?

I just finished my first week of college as a sophomore. I'm an MMFP (multi-media and film production) major; most of my classes are with other film students. My favorite class so far has been Film Appreciation, but I've noticed something.

Each week, students in the class are required to watch a movie--which we will discuss throughout the week and then take a quiz on it. Not that difficult, right? Well, this week our professor had asked that we watch Sinners before today's class. The number of people who hadn't watched the movie was so shocking to me. When our professor asked who had watched the movie, most students either hadn't watched it at all or "couldn't get all the way through it."

I mean, can our attention spans really be that horrible? Why major in film if you can hardly stomach a full movie?

It could also be the demographics. I go to Georgia Southern University. A small town, very southern environment. A lot of the students in my classes are very redneck. So, the movies we've been watching (Sinners, Moonlight, Promising Young Woman) are covering topics that make them uncomfortable-- so I've heard. Most of the complaining comes from the men in my class. But lots of my professors have expressed disappointment with how few movies a lot of film majors have watched.

That's all for now, bye-bye!
